This is called a Hypercube, and is a 3D model (though it’s really 2D, since it’s on your screen) of the relationship between space and time (i.e. 4th dimension).

This isn’t really an optical illusion. Its a hybercube, also known as a Tesseract, or the four dimensional equivalent of a cube, the cube being the three dimensional form based on the two dimensional form of a square, which is then further based on the one dimensional line. Tesseracts exhibit width, depth, length, and spissitude, the name for the quality of the fourth dimension. What one sees here is a tesseract rotating along the w (w for spissitude, just like x for width, y for length, and z for depth) axis.
